Joy is a way of being.
We are delighted to present our second charity art exhibition – Joy Vol. II – Étoile.
Étoile. A theme we’ve selected for so many reasons. It of course refers to a star. Stars are celestial, symbolic, romantic. We look to the stars for illumination, for guidance, as a source of beauty. Gazing at the stars evokes a sense of wonder.
And brings us joy.
How much we all need joy, love and beauty right now. These are the things that unite us all, despite our differences, our hardships, the state of the world. Perhaps these are the only things that can get us through. And give us the strength and the courage to go on when we might not otherwise be able.
This exhibition is for the children who are patients at Perth Children’s Hospital. It’s to give them a positive opportunity in what might otherwise be a bleak and challenging (indeed life threatening) time. An opportunity to be exposed to the restorative and healing power of art. To experiment with portraiture. To be distracted from their everyday.
This exhibition is for our artists. Artists who, given all the opportunities open to them, have chosen to support this initiative and give of their time and resources so generously.
And this exhibition is for you. Thank you for your interest. Thank you for being open to this experience we’ve created: an exhibition that is intended to uplift, to intrigue and to take you to another place. To see joy through the eyes of these artists. All for an incredibly valuable cause.
We were overwhelmed by the response to the inaugural Joy exhibition, having raised over $54,000. With your help, we are excited about what we can achieve this year.
Giving back to the community is a key part of why we started The Montauk Lighting Co. One of the most special community partnerships for Montauk is with The Lester Prize and Starlight Children’s Foundation. As part of the Lester Prize’s Youth Category, we’ve loved supporting portraiture-art workshops for children in the Starlight Express Room. It’s a program for patients at PCH to be immersed in art, under the guidance of professional artists and special guests, guaranteed to spark a smile.
We’ve previously shared our very personal reasons for championing this initiative. Having experienced hospital stays, we know that kind gestures and positive distractions can be the brightest parts of the day.
This is all made possible by our talented and kind curator, Jo Meredith, who has put enormous energy into this exhibition and also created two exquisite artworks.
We’re also grateful to our incredible team of supporters, including Block, whose vision for Joy is absolutely incredible. Many of our other favourite suppliers have come on board to assist and we are so thankful to each of them.
Our wish for you: may you always see the beauty and sparkle in life and be open to receiving joy. However and whenever it appears.
We look forward to seeing you soon and are excited to welcome you to experience this exhibition: Joy Vol. II – Étoile.
In memory of our daughter, Cleo Eve. Our brightest light and our greatest joy.
