For more than three decades, internationally recognised interior designer Diane Bergeron has built a reputation for sophisticated and elegant interiors with meticulous attention to detail. Her work draws on classic American style, blending comfort with enduring beauty, offering a fresh perspective on traditional design.
Diane Bergeron’s love of gracious living and entertaining extends beyond interiors to the objects within them, and in her latest collaboration with The Modern Traditionalists, she brings this to life through lighting, furniture and decorative pieces.
Designing from her home on the coast of South Australia, Diane draws inspiration from art, particularly sculpture, as well as travel, historic interiors and pieces that feel collected over time.
“I’m drawn to objects with a strong sense of form, proportion and character. That thinking influenced this collaboration quite naturally. I wanted the pieces to feel familiar yet distinctive, as though they could sit comfortably in both traditional and more relaxed interiors.”
The Malone Sconce and Pendant marked the beginning of the collaboration, offering a modern take on the classic carriage light with bold silhouettes and clean lines—a defining feature in classic American exterior design.
For Diane, proportion matters most when designing a piece, and the Hugo Sconce brings that philosophy to the fore, feeling confident without being imposing. "I wanted the Hugo to feel effortlessly elegant," Diane says, "refined but substantial, with details that make it feel timeless in any setting."
Inspired by classic tailoring, its slender backplate allows it to sit comfortably between windows, on narrow panels or mounted to cabinetry, while a crisp linen shade, finished with signature grosgrain trims, lends a sense of polish.
“The collection is connected by a sense of layering. Each piece adds something different: light, texture, shape or decoration, but they are all intended to work together quietly rather than dominate a room.”
Beyond lighting, the collaboration continues through furniture and decorative pieces, each designed to work together as part of a layered home.
The softly arched silhouette of the Georgie Mirror is framed by richly woven detailing inspired by the wicker and rattan furnishings that have graced beautifully decorated homes for generations. "I wanted the Georgie to feel warm, welcoming and timeless," Diane says, "a piece that adds texture and character to a room without ever feeling formal."
The Somerset Tray Table draws on the beautifully layered interiors Diane loves most—homes that feel collected over time rather than simply decorated. Pairing faux bamboo with richly toned tortoiseshell, it reinterprets familiar decorative elements with warmth and ease. It is, as Diane puts it, "decorative without being precious, and versatile enough to move effortlessly from room to room."
